Young Files May Be ReleasedJudge orders cases reviewed for possible releaseFiles from the Department of Justice investigation of Alaska Congressman Don Young could be made public, under a ruling by a federal judge. Young has been accused of altering a transportation bill already passed by Congress to benefit a campaign donor in Florida. The donor owned more than 4,000 acres of land on Coconut Road, which was scheduled for a freeway connection under the legislation. In August 2010, Young said the Justice Department had declined to prosecute him. An anti-corruption group made a Freedom of Information request to get the files on the Young investigation. Tuesday a judge ordered that the files must be indexed within 60 days, so that a case-by-case decision can be made on which, if any, should be released to the public. Congressman Young declined comment today. |
