WILLOW - Halloween is a day for dressing up and decorating, but for most people the scary thrills come just once a year. But if you travel to Willow you might see a shop called Wytchwood, where potions and spells are an everyday affair.

Cars going at a good clip could easily miss the spooky shop where the lawn is filled with witches and plastic ghouls. But for those who stop to take a peek, be prepared to meet a witch.

Rhonda Gruber is the witch behind Wytchwood, a small store in a historic cabin packed with candles, charms and other magical items. It’s a mystical supply shop and a place to get help with life’s problems.

“I’m kind of like the local bartender,” says Gruber, who considers herself a counselor of sorts. She can help customers with their needs whether they are looking for love, more money or just relief from pain.

The back of the shop is where Gruber mixes medicinal herb teas for all sorts of ailments, aches and pains. There are also teas and potions for specific outcomes like cleansing negative energy from the body or environment.

One thing Gruber says she does not encourage are people seeking revenge. She says it’s important for people to consider all the ramifications because sometimes things can go awry with powerful magic. And sometimes she requires written proof that the would be victims deserve it.

Gruber warns that magic doesn’t always work and there are no guarantees. Still, she says, she has a good track record and is always happy to help any who seek her services.

Wytchwood is located at mile 85.5 on the Parks Highway. It is open from Tuesday through Saturday.
