He's been on the air for 30 years using the most traditional hand tools for his crafts.

Roy Underhill, the star of the PBS show The Woodwright's Shop was at the UAA campus Sunday for an afternoon of wit and woodworking.

Alaskans enjoy their crafts and tools, and Roy believes the craftsmanship up here in the Last Frontier is above average.

“Alaska has the great heritage of handcrafts and not just the native heritage, but the heritage of self-reliance…that's what my whole program has been about for 30 years, now,” says Roy.

Pittsboro, North Carolina, is the home of Roy’s traditional woodworking school.
