Woman's Husband and Son in Hospital After Two Separate FallsSon fell from hotel room windowANCHORAGE - For more than a week Pamela Ramage has been going non-stop. Her husband Robert has been recovering at Alaska Regional after he fell 40-feet off a conveyor belt at his work site in Valdez. On Sunday morning, Ramage says when she finally got to sleep, she woke up minutes later to another misfortune. “I didn’t see my son in the room, so I thought well maybe he's in the bathroom, he wasn’t there,” she said. As she walked towards the door she heard something. “Heard a child screaming from direction of window, went running to the window, there he was, three stories down, two people on either side of him. It's a parents worst nightmare, I just died,” she said. She said Bobby managed to somehow open the sliding window, which had a screen on it and fell through. He suffered a broken arm, broken rib, and his spleen was lacerated. Ramage says she wants the hotel to make the windows childproof. “You don’t think you have to watch your kid every second in the hotel room, who thinks that, their supposed to have that safe,” she said. For now, she says she's just trying to stay strong as her husband and son recover. |

Yes you do have to watch your child every second. Its called parenting.

It was a window not a door...Sounds like their window are up to code with municipality/fire codes, so yes, I guess as a parent, you are suppose to watch your child. It's the parents job to ensure there children are safe.....What was Mom doing when the kid was playing with the window???? Always easier to blame someone else.......

Pretty sad this mom is blaming someone else for the responsibility of there child and she isn't taking the blame. Some parenting letting your child fall out of a window let alone 3 stories.

Almost sounds like the lot of you are not parents or you just like to make yourself feel better by downing someone else. I don't know not 1 parent that hasn't taken a cat nap on the couch as the children played. I am not condoning this, but the fact is each of us knows our kids, if you have a rambunctious kid, you don't nap!

IF THEY WERE CHILD PROOF, THEY WOULDN'T BE UP TO CODE...THERE IS A REASON WHY WINDOWS UP TO A CERTAIN HEIGHT IN BUILDINGS DON'T HAVE STOPPERS ON THEM. SOUNDS LIKE THE HOTEL HAS DONE NOTHING WRONG.

We had family stay there a few weeks ago and windows were all brand new. As a parent, you are responsible for child, regardless.

Funny how every one is just forgetting a child is hurt and all they can do is worry about what the mom said only to bash her. Grow up people..

Reply to the statement "Yes you do have to watch your child every second. Its called parenting." Grow up, you obviously do not have any children, easy for you to say. Does that mean you never sleep?...for years? Or do you tie your child up to the bed? That would be bad parenting! No, children do things sometimes that you would never expect. I remember when my son was 7. Somehow he got ahold of the keys to my car. The car had a safety that did not allow the car to start without putting your foot firmly on the brake, which was good. Although, the car was parked on a slanted parking spot. When he took off the emergency brake the car rolled back into another parked car. This happened at home. Fortunately noone was hurt. I do understand the codes about being able to get out of hotel windows, yet there should still be a secure latch high up on the window, not easily accessible to a child.

The Hotel has brand new windows and is nearing completion of a major renovation. It has been a great place to stay and has not had anyone fall out of a window in 35 years that I know of. I haven't heard of too many other hotels that people "fell" out of the windows either. Is the hotel responsible for watching every person and making sure they are safe? Accidents do happen and it is no ones fault. I am very sorry for the accident to this child but why should any hotel or other business be responsible for such things. People are just looking for someone to blame and how they can get some money. I hope this family all recovers and gets on with life accepting responsibility for what happens.

Everything that could hurt a child is required to have an extra protective design. Even vitamin bottles are made with child-proof caps. There are many styles of child-proof locks. It would make sense that those would be required on hotel windows. Even a responsible mother doesn't take her 7 year-old son in the shower with her. After sleeping the night, many times a child will wake up before the parents. When I did daycare in my home, everything had to be child-proof! It is expected that children will be in a hotel room, so they should also be child-proof!

This was a accident.....no one is really to blame...sometimes things happen and there is no one to blame for it....thats why it's called an accident.

this accident is horrible. and the hotel is up to date with everything. this lady is cruel and is a rude lady and shes a lyer. she has no emotion towards the accident. she just wants money. the fact that her child fell thru the window and it takes her 10 minutes to get downstairs, didnt even approach her child laying on the ground. the window was closed right after it happened. the police need to investigate this further, because there is foul play involved.
