Police responded to the 3000 block of Turnagain Street Wednesday around 6:30 p.m. after receiving reports that a woman had been shot and killed.

Upon arrival, police found the body of 58-year-old Colleen Fukuda lying dead in bed from a single gunshot wound to the head.

Anchorage Police Department Crime Scene detectives suspect that the deceased’s roommate, 66-year-old Berne Marie Peterson, used a Snake Charmer 2.410 gauge shotgun to shoot Fukuda when she refused to help her roommate go to the bathroom.

Peterson, who has difficulty walking, often required assistance to move about their West Anchorage home.

Detectives believe that Peterson became upset at her roommate’s refusal, made her way into Fukuda’s bedroom and then shot her in the head, killing her instantly.

Witnesses told police they heard shouting before the shooting.

Peterson is charged with first- and second-degree murder with a cash-only bail set at $500,000.

I believe the detectives are WAY over simplifying this crime. Do you find it hard to believe? The truth is probably hidden under this tabloid statement. I believe it shows the maturity of the detectives.
