Woman Remains Hospitalized After Home InvasionPolice unsure why Airport Heights resident was targetedANCHORAGE - A 65-year-old woman remains hospitalized tonight after police say she opened her door to a stranger who beat her severely about the head and face. According to police, it happened around 5:30 Tuesday evening on East 17th Street in a quiet Airport Heights neighborhood. The woman was cooking her dinner when she heard a knock at the door. “She answered the door to the stranger,” said APD’s Anita Shell, "and was met immediately by an individual who started beating her about the head and face. She was knocked unconscious for a while, and then woke up to find herself covered in blood. Her purse had been dumped out in the living room and some of her valuables had been taken out of her purse.” Police said the man could have stolen other valuables in the home but instead made off with just a small amount of cash and several credit cards. They still don’t know why the woman was targeted. “It sounds completely random,” said Shell. “Nothing in her life indicates anything that she may have been in that may have led to this type of attack occurring to her. By all accounts she was really a kind person who would give you the shirt off her back.” Police detectives plan to interview the woman again but say she remembers little about the attack or the attacker since it happened so quickly. It’s not clear when she will be released from the hospital. Police expect she will need surgery to correct some of the damage that was done from the beating. |

If the photo here is of the womans home, a security type storm door needs to be installed. She may have stood a chance instead of opening it blind to the creep that attacked her.A .45 slug would have stopped him too.

If she had a gun in her hand as she opened the door, one less dirtbag would be in the city right now.

How many of you actually answeryour door while holding a gun? It seems to me that the perpetrator knew that by taking this lady totally off guard he would have the upper hand immediately no matter what she might be holding. This doesn't seem to be a robbery but rather a vicious attack for the thrill of it and could possibly escalate with each attack. It is doubtful this is his first nor will it be his last. I am this poor womans age and am home alone with my cat most days. I never open the door to anyone I don't know.Period.

I have a large size peephole in my door. I don't open the door to someone I don't know unless they look like Morman missionaries or someone equally harmless..... and sometimes not even then. Moreover, if I am not expecting someone I often don't even bother going to the door at all.

Never open a door to anyone you are not expecting. Ask who it is. If they need help tell them you will make the call. Ask for their name. Back away from the door. If you are armed place yourself behind cover if the person becomes aggressive. Call 911. Keep all family members behind you. Keep your weapon ready at all times with your finger off the trigger.

The scumbag that did this should be executed, by way of firing squad. And it should be done publicly as well.

I own guns and enjoy shooting, I own them for sport, hunting, and protection, but shooting another human being is something I do not ever want to be forced to do. A little old lady in Anchorage Alaska should not even have to lock her door, let alone carry a firearm to open it. Could the real problem be that our society is no longer taught to respect their elders? Human life is no longer important? The holocaust of abortions shows us that. There is no God ? The sides of the anchorage busses in december told us as much. Or maybe I can take what you have, and do what ever I want to no matter what the law of the land is? our governmental executive orders teach us that! I think that what our country needs a heart transplant
