ANCHORAGE - Kristen Reid, the 30-year-old woman who was found bleeding and nearly naked in a ditch earlier this week, has officially been declared brain-dead. Meanwhile her boyfriend, 21-year-old Bukurim Miftari is currently charged with attempted murder. But that charge is expected to be upgraded. It was an emotional afternoon for Kristen Reid’s family. They say she was declared brain dead not even an hour before Miftari was arraigned on several felony charges, including assault, kidnapping and tampering with evidence. 21-year old Bukurim Miftari is accused with attempted murder, and made a brief appearance in jail court – just long enough for the judge to set his bail. That’s where they ran into Miftari, Reid’s ex-boyfriend. The two women then left and went back to B.W.'s apartment, where BW told police Miftari drove up in a dark SUV, and demanded, at gunpoint, to see Reid. Reid left and was found four hours later in a ditch near the Bush Company, nearly naked with a bullet in her neck. Reid’s father says there are no words to describe the loss of someone so precious. “She was awesome,” said Ken Malay, Reid’s father. “She was an awesome person. She loved life, loved Alaska. She would give you the shirt off of her back; she did it many times. We didn’t always get along together, but we loved each other. Reid has four children: three girls and a boy, ages three to 13. Her family has set up an account for her kids at Wells Fargo under the name Kristen Malay Reid. |

so very sad for Kristen and her family! I can't for the life of me understand how this man can get bail, especially given the fact that he ran from police, was considered "armed and dangerous", and was a flight risk. Now knowing that his family is wealthy and has the capability to post the bond....I am baffled! Am I the only one who sees something wrong with this picture?

Bail should be denied. He clearly is a danger to women. This is a woman (and mother) that he loved and wasn't even with anymore and he kidnapped her, probably assaulted her (being she was naked), and then tried to murder her and left her for dead and she did later die. What would he do to a woman he had no feelings for? He sounds like a monster. For public safety he should not be let out prior to being tried.

Further proof that Alaska has the most screwed up court system and corrupt and/or idiotic judges. In what situation does someone charged with first degree murder, or facing an upgrade to that charge, EVER get bail???

Anyone know if his family is here in Alaska....what makes them wealthy? We do have the most screwed up court system......Maybe the judge on the case shouldn't be voted back into office when its time to vote for these judges???

I just hope when his attempted murder charge is up graded to murder they take bail off the table. If they don't, there is something very wrong. I feel very sad for Kristen and her family. May God watch over you all and help you through this.

I'm pretty sure there's more to the story than is being told, there are so many unanswered questions. and things just dont add up. Especially knowing one of the players involved. Between APD and the news, you might not ever get the truth. Regardless of what led up to this tragic event, one thing is certain, 4 innocent children have to live life without their mother. I pray for the Malay/Reid family and may justice be served.
