ANCHORAGE - It's October and the first snow has already hit the ground, but while temperatures continue to drop, detours, lane closures and lower speed limits are still in place for Anchorage drivers. Nicole Cupp said, "It seems they were working rather quickly in the beginning and now it's slowed up."

The biggest ongoing project is the Seward Highway, where crews are turning four lanes into six, crews say Mother Nature did put a few bumps in their schedule, but right now they are back on track. Drivers will soon be routed onto the frontage road while work continues sporadically throughout the winter.

Rick Feeler from the Department of Transportation said, "Folks can plan on seeing a slightly different alignment for south-bound traffic. There will still be two lanes of traffic but will be slightly diverted."

Officials promise the end result will be worth the wait, and D.O.T. and contractors said they wouldn't have been able to get it done without the patience and understanding of the traveling public. Most of the Seward Highway project should be finished by the end of next year, but the final date for completion is June of 2014.
