Where Was God?Question hangs for some after school massacreANCHORAGE - It’s a central tenet of the Christian faith that this is a fallen world, in which rebellion against God has allowed evil to affect our lives. Still, with something this big and dark, some are no doubt asking, where was God this morning? "People tend to forget Bethel, and [the] Bethel shooting,” said police Chaplain Bert McQueen. “Commonplace, they refer to Columbine as the school shooting that kind of started a lot of this nationwide. Bethel was before that." "Yeah, and you know we're all concerned about it maybe happening right here,” said Reverend Jerry Prevo of Anchorage Baptist Temple. “I know we are here at our school are thinking about what can we further do to protect our students." "Even though it happened thousands of miles away, it feels like it could happen right here in our city, in our home, with our families or friends," said Reverend Richard Irwin of Anchorage City Church. As to why this happened, the ministers say it's a result of humanity's fallen nature. "I can't come back and answer for God,” Irwin said. “God has to speak for himself in these things. But i do have confidence in him, that if we pray, he hears us when we pray." Irwin says this is a time for people to reach out to each other and to ministers and mental health professionals. It happened on the opposite coast, but we're feeling it here. |

has it occurred to anyone the reason for this is humanity throwing a wrench in the gears...instead of just letting it "happen" in life...we torque it...so if you expect me to feel sorry for you don't because I won't...humanity brought this on themselves...if they had NOT interfered EACH time something was to come to pass...we wouldn't even be dealing with someone killing people...

And I agree with the power of prayer. Just this weekend I put a slip of paper in a letter that was requesting money for a christian organization. I wrote on the paper: "Prayer, it's BETTER than money!".

God wiped out entire races of innocent people and populations at the blink of an eye, I don't think this breaks her heart too much.

This horrible thing must break Gods heart, to see his children doing such bad things. With man having free will & us allowing God to be taken out of the schools & almost every where public, what can we expect. The media & Hollywood have been DESENSITIZING us for years; our children see murders, gangs, gun fights, violence against women & children all the time. We Christian’s should look at this as yet another wake up call to starting praying in one accord & standing what we know to be right. He that is in me is stronger than he that is in the world. There is no simple answer for this senseless act, I pray for all families affected by this tragedy.

Prevo is the last one who should preach about not following God's ways. The ABT is a striking example of materialism and has been all of the 37 years I have been up here.

If there was a "god" it would have to be female, and a mother would never permit tho atrocity to occur and she certainly would not have permitted the second amendment! Ergo, there is no "god"...

So god made flawed human beings, then punishes them for being flawed? These are the morals you hold?

Don't bring God into this. It's not his fault that there is all this evil in the world, it's mans fault. When Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge it brought sin and death in the world! All God did was tell them not to eat it. You people make me sick.

They say that during the Holocaust, many of the victims either forsaken God or embraced Him with full righteous. Testimonies of German guards often talked about doomed families facing upward toward the skies as if that is where they are headed while others went silently in despair. Of course, the survivors would often asked, "How did God allowed so many millions to be butchered?" That question is often debated even among church people as well. Well, maybe we can asked the Almighty when our time come, eh? If there isn't one, oh well, we died in ignorance. Al the same in the end.

The God that is able to prevent evil but unwilling is not one worthy of worship and adulation. The God that is willing to prevent evil but unable is no god at all. The God that is willing to prevent evil and able to prevent evil and chooses not to is the ultimate evil itself.

For those of you that believe the kingdom of heaven is near, can I have your car? My car is terrible in the winter and I need a 2nd one for the winter.

GOD IS EVERYWHERE and allows things to happen according to His perfect will. If we are to point fingers... perhaps begin with MAIN STREAM TELEVISION MEDIAS and the VIOLENT MURDERS and bloody scenes shown daily on television shows and also movie sales and rentals, in plain sight of our children! Then fully investigate the use and over medication of a huge number of young people (many different ages) by P$YCH MEDICATION$ that are being forced and pushed on society, especially up here in Alaska but it is everywhere in America. DON'T BLAME GUNS and certainly DO NOT BLAME GOD! Our nation has fallen away from God and this is the result. Jesus preached daily: REPENT! FOR THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS NEAR! 2 Chronicles 7:14. The children in this incident are in Heaven. I am sorry for our nation and especially for the grieving families involved. SHALOM.

Karen- The bible has several examples of god unleashing his wrath with the result of children being murdered. A friend of mine, who is very religious and studies the bible incessantly, says quite frankly that 'god is an evil bast*rd'. As a Freethinker, I always find it so odd when people will say 'god spared xyz', for example when 2 planes collided a couple years ago, and both pilots managed to land safely. The news article talked about how 'god must have been guiding them'. So then, WHY would a supposedly loving god not protect these innocent children? I don't buy the 'he needed angels' nonsense, nor do I accept the tired 'some things are a mystery', or 'we aren't meant to understand' or 'we need faith to accept his will'. It's all BS to keep people slaves to the church. If the god of the bible is indeed real, then he has no compassion for anyone, and is a very capricious deity. Certainly one I would have no interest in worshipping.

Do we really want to believe that because of some people's refusal to accept God as God that he(God)would let loose the terrors of his wrath upon innocent children through a mentally deranged young man? I believe in God but not in this type of doctrine. I also believe we in this country are extremely lacking in the field of mental health issues.

The actions of Adam, 20-year-old shooter, is the result of demonic infestation of evil spirits of murder, rage, hate and mayhem. There is no way anybody can do what he did, without being possessed by evil entities. He needed the Lord, and several exorcisms.

Well most people do not acknowledge God to begin with. So when tragedy happens they ask Where is or where was God? So now people look for God and blame Him when something like this happens,WHY? You all should be seeking Him on a daily basis not just in tragic times. And besides where God is not welcome He does not go, School for an example.....

God doesn't orchestrate every one of our daily movements or circumstances. Folks need to understand that there are very bad , demented people out there. Hardly any way to protect against this type of situation , as sad as that is.

Where was God? Not in the school--it's against the law for God to be in public schools.

This is a horrible thing, and trying to explain it with some sort of god or religion is a natural human defense mechanism. It makes us feel better if we think there is some "plan" or it's "mankind's refusal to accept god". It doesn't make any of those things real though.
