In a press release today, Alaska's Congressional delegation announced the Secretary of the Navy, Ray Mabus, called each of them personally to tell them the USS Anchorage Naval vessel will be commissioned in Anchorage in September or October of this year.

This must be a New USS Anchorage? I was on the first USS Anchorage LSD36 which was decomissioned and sank in the ocean years ago. In fact we came up to Anchorage to show the city the ship named after them. This was in the 1970s.
