People come to Alaska for all kinds of reasons. For Royce Allen Eagle, it was almost the perfect hiding place. Eagle turned up in the Last Frontier shortly after deserting the U.S. Navy in Norfolk, Virginia in 2006. He then created a fake identity, going by the name of "Rick Engle" and was able to get a birth certificate, a social security card and a passport that allowed him to live in Alaska until last year when authorities identified him by his fingerprints.

Eagle was sentenced in a Fairbanks courtroom to five months in jail for passport fraud in federal court. He was also sentenced to an additional four months in jail for forgery and attempted perjury in state court. Eagle has been behind bars since December of last year.

He went thorough all of the trouble to get the necessary documents and was done in because he didn't spend $2 for a few sheets of 120 or 150 grit sandpaper to sand off his fingerprints. Penny wise and pound foolish!
