ANCHORAGE - You could call it a new way to look at UAA – and the hope is that it will attract more students and donors. The university has launched a new image campaign that showcases the achievements of students and staff.

“There are so many interesting things happening here,” said UAA’s Public Relations Specialist Jessica Hamlin. “Our students come from all walks of life, there is innovative research happening here on our campus, and we wanted to use this opportunity to tell those stories.”

The university wants to get the word out to the community that good things are happening at UAA, so they’ve invested $500,000 on a new ad campaign to prove it. But they are also selling the idea to students, who, in the past, may not have thought of the university as a cool school to attend. Bridgett Mackey is a UAA alumnus who said the school’s reputation has changed in recent years.

“I graduated in 2002 myself, and there was still a stigma then,” said Mackey. “A lot of my friends, when you told them you were going to UAA, would say, ‘Why aren’t you going outside?’ I don’t think that’s the case anymore.”

The new campaign includes three television ads that starting airing statewide on Monday. There’s also plenty of evidence of the new brand on campus, including bus wraps, banners and T-shirts.
