Two Rivers Man Leads Alaska State Troopers On High-Speed PursuitHe successfully got away by driving up the exit ramp of the Richardson Highway at Badger Road, but was spotted walking in the area a short while later, according to court documents.
FAIRBANKS — A Two Rivers man allegedly led Alaska State Troopers on a more than 100 mph chase early Saturday morning while high on marijuana. He successfully got away by driving up the exit ramp of the Richardson Highway at Badger Road, but was spotted walking in the area a short while later, according to court documents.
A trooper tried to stop Brian James West, 20, about 12:30 a.m. on Holmes Road. He had a damaged muffler and was driving 48 mph in a 40 mph zone, troopers said. Instead of stopping, troopers said West sped up, driving into a ditch at the corner of Dennis Road and Badger Road and continuing on Badger. Near the intersection of Badger Road and the Richardson Highway, troopers said his Mazda hit 112 mph and disappeared from sight. Tracks in the snow suggested he might have gone up the exit ramp, troopers said. Fifteen minutes later, another trooper spotted three people walking up the exit ramp. The Mazda was found farther up the ramp in a stand of trees over an embankment. West initially said he had not been in the vehicle, but later said he was driving, troopers said. He told troopers he intentionally drove up the Richardson Highway exit ramp to get away because he did not have a driver’s license and did not want to get in trouble. He told troopers he smoked “lots” of marijuana and showed troopers two plastic bags of the drug. He was charged with first-degree failure to stop at the direction of a police officer, a felony. He was charged with misdemeanors including driving without a license, reckless endangerment and drugs misconduct. West was arraigned Saturday and has been appointed a public defender. |

A 20 year old high on marijuana negotiating speeds of up to 112 MPH... and getting away from the law!!! Well that proves it .. all law enforcement will immediatelhy start using marijuana before during and after their shifts. Their driving skills would improve.. ole Chief Mew would not have 'texted' his way into that car in front of him had he had the benefit of marijuana usage. Officer Rollins ..had he been high ....would have been more sensitive as he served and protected those poor virtuous maidens... as for Sullivan ... such a dour fellow... his father was expansive and effusive...rather pleasant.. not sure what marijuana would do there.... he might be immune.

Dukes of Hazzard...lol...we got away from cops when we were kids...lots of sideroads to hide in...riding a dirt bike is better than a car... Funny sh*t about cops...did you know you can smoke weed for 10 yrs and if you stopped in the last year you can be a Trooper...

Apparently, no one who bothered to comment on this story took grade school grammar. You people are the epitome of moronic.

I'd thought most of those commenting here would have reached the age of majority ... I had no idea I should have framed my comments to include an elementary school student.. I feel your pain... I write as a stream of consciousness... not as a babbling brook of consiousness... your teacher's aides would shudder for sure!!

Everything in America now is a felony. Is flipping off a cop a felony? Prisons are full. America is the biggest police state in the world. More of America's population is in prison than in any other country in the world - by far. 48 mph in a 40 mile zone. Probably get life for that.
