Two Ft. Wainwright Stryker Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan

Two Ft. Wainwright soldiers have been killed and several more wounded in two separate attacks in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan.

Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson officials say SPC Calvin Matthew Pereda died Saturday after his unit was attacked during a dismounted patrol. Two other soldiers from the 1-25 Stryker Brigade Combat Team were also wounded. In a separate incident, 38-year-old SFC Johnathan McCain died Sunday from injuries he sustained after insurgents attacked his unit while on a mounted patrol. Six other soldiers from the 1-25 Stryker Brigade Combat Team were also wounded.

Pereda was from Fayetteville, North Carolina. He joined the United States Army in March 2010, and graduated from Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Benning, Georgia, before becoming an infantryman. Next of kin have been notified.

McCain is from Apache Junction, Arizona. He joined the United States Army nearly 20 years ago, and was serving as a platoon sergeant. He had previously served two tours in Iraq.

Memorial services will be held on Ft. Wainwright. Next of kin have been notified.

Pray for the famlies that lost these precious men.Pray they are with the Lord and GOD bless the famlies and give them strength and peace.Oh the price of "FREEDOM".REMEMBER...Freedom isen't FREE.
