Mixed bag of weather while crews continue work

CORDOVA, AK: CBS 11’s Heather Hintze has been in Cordova for the past several days. Tuesday, Cordova got a little bit of everything, snow and 50 mph winds in the morning, then the winds died down and the snow stopped.

You don’t have to go far in Cordova to find crews hard at work.

With all the wear and tear from 24-hour operations, the city put Coast Guard members to work at the mechanic’s shop.

After record-breaking snowfall this winter, residents are growing weary.

The National Guard has been working in Cordova since the weekend, and conditions aren’t ideal, but the Guard is ready for anything. As night falls, the darkness doesn’t stop people from the task at hand. Crews press on, liquefying snow at a rate of 80 tons per hour.

The streets are finally starting to get back to normal.

For a short time, the winds died down, and the snow stopped. But there’s no telling what Wednesday morning will bring.

Cordova schools will be closed through the end of the week because despite how it looked outside Tuesday, more wet weather is on the way.
