Where were the Feds for this Kid? they were outside the Base for the other kid!! They negotiated for several hours, Does AST have a negotiator? Guess Not! There are many ways to knock down a gunman without killing him!! They teach it in Special ops!!

The man wanted to die and the troopers helped him fufill his wishes. Good for them. Now society has one less Idiot to deal with.

Why do people keep calling the Police and Troopers for "welfare checks," and suicide depression stuff. They must know by now that the cops are just going to come out and kill them. Are these people who call the cops and get their relatives killed - are they not paying attention. Alaska cops kill. If you don't consent to let them into your house they will call it an armed standoff and kill you, even if there was no standoff involved. Alaska police are the worst in the nation, including New Orlean, LA, and Chicago. Alaska cops are the most trigger happy in the nation. They also have the least regard for civil rights.

AST have very inadequate training for marksmanship and professional negotiation skills. The type of weapon, falling back and 2-3 troopers coming out in full urban warfare gear (every main artery and skull protected) would help the officers to feel less threatened when an "at risk" person "brandishing" some kind of weapon comes "at them." I am haunted by the mom of 2 boys in Wasilla, the woman that felt so betrayed. Two women and one 19 year old man have been killed in situations where more target practice (knees are best) and the skill of, "stand down, fall back. gear-up;" might have served the safety of the public more than..."okay, he/she is "brandishing" a weapon, so one hour of talk is enough, "shoot to kill!" Why shoot to kill? that is the limit of the shooting skill.Grass roots movements solve these situations. Not AST fault, it is poor training and ignorance of depression, and what it can do to a normal person, in a short time. The next person could be you/or your childs.

Why? is everyones question in AZ....Why do an investigation on the troopers when their own civilians even know how crooked they are everyone knows theyre just going to get away with it. like some the other comments say why didnt the troopers take guard instead of shooting right away someone with common sense would have done so, they had already gotten the two ladies out who more could he have hurt if it took him that long to come out maybe he was just asking for help not death. so many youngsters are struggling with jobs not able to find work. while someone said 1 down and thousands to go thats just plain stupidity selfless person. you must not have kids or teenagers around in this day and age kids go thru more than what anyone could imagine.. All my prayers go out to this family and friends. He was a good kid the worst got to him. Theres only so much of life some people can take. God Bless him and take him in your arms. God Bless the men who were trigger happy no bad upon them.

Didn't someone invent rubber bullets or bean bag shooters for occasions like this?

Since the man was ill, suicidial, why not shoot him with a tranquilizer gun? Or shoot him in the leg or arm or some other area? Fact is however,IF your shoot at or threaten to shoot an officer of the law, they can and will use deadly force. Its a shame, but must be upheld, as too many officers are killed in the line of duty, due to the scum bags in the streets.I have to agree with the law.

This man was SICK! They knew that BEFORE they got there. He was threatening suicide which shoulda already put them on HIGH ALERT! TYPICAL misuse of providing their service and protect motto....who exactly are they servicing and protecting if they are there to shoot you before you can shoot yourself? WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE AND HOW DO THEY SLEEP AT NIGHT?????????

these cops had time to prepare for him to come out of the house armed. They knew he had a gun. coulda found cover and waited for that moment and ended it without fatality. This is about cops with twitchy fingers who were ready to kill someone.. and did it. I hope they feel better about themselvs. why would they go in with assault rifles anyway. the kid was suicidel,, were they there to help him do it? obviously not there to prevent it, they showed up with the intent to kill. that ast for you

(continued) if the article is accurate then this was standard procedure according to accepted training and duty actions for all police officers nationwide. Any good cop would be haunted by this action for a long long time.

A young man dead is a sad thing. With all due respect to the family and friends of Adrian, this is a situation where it's anybody's guess as to what would have happened next. I have very little respect for AK cops given all the BS they constantly pull, but if someone points a gun at me I'm gonna shoot to kill too. Just common sense. You don't have time to figure out if it's a bluff or a bullet coming at you. Whatever problems this kid had, he chose the wrong method to handle them. There may have been a lot of possible solutions for him, a lot of help to be had, but once you point a gun at someone, it's generally too late for the other options. Instead of looking to blame the police, let's look at what led up to the incident and see who's still alive that needs help to avoid getting into the same situation. I agree there may be some trigger happy a-hole cops, but

Why didn't the troopers back away? After the women were out of the house the the troopers copuld have moved to a safe perimeter and allowed the situation to cool down. The man threatened to kill himself and they responded to prevent it. I guess they did their job. prevented from killing himselfd

No officer shoots with the intent to "wing" someone. The only time an officer fires a weapon is if there is an imminent, and deadly danger, requiring immediate action to preserve the life of himself or another. It appears that every effort was made to resolve the situation peacefully, but unfortunately the outcome of these types of situations is not in the hands of the police. The phrase "suicide by cop" means just that; a distraught person has placed an officer in a position where the officer must fire his weapon to save his own life. It is sad that the young man chose to end his life, but it is terrible that an officer must go through the trauma of having to kill someone in order to avoid being killed himself. Anyone who thinks the officer was in the wrong needs to put themselves in his place. Imagine someone pointing a gun at you with the intent to kill and ask yourself what you would do.

When you pull guns on cops you are paid for. Nobody can ask cops to shoot the gun out of his hand. That is only in the movies. Loss of a young life is senseless but not the cops fault. The nose candy or whatever he sucked up done him in. Pray for his soul and family and the cops.

This [shoot first] behavior must be taught at the academy, there is a long history of murder by AST, one law [or no law] for AST, and the rest of the citizens, open season............

Another suicide by cop. And the police and state troopers are all to well and eager to grant that wish. State Troopers here are the worst in the nation.

How do you know the details? You are a jaded elder who may be talking this way about ANY young kid who may have had a 4.0, or fought in the war, or done nice things for the community. Shame on you wherever. Ever consider it could have been a nice kid with a serious illness or trauma? You don't care? Then you are the problem.

AK Troopers always get worked up and instead of backing off and allowing the situation to cool down they increase the pressure and get the outcome they desire. trigger happy cops need to be fired. who is watching the cops while they murder us? we now live in a police state.

Another young life lost because troopers dont know how to shoot, you mean to tell me you couldnt have just winged the kid in the arm with the gun and get him to drop it? Murderers and yet they walk the streets!
