Trial Begins For “Hot Sauce Mom” Accused Of Abusing Russian AdopteeSix-member jury selected for case of mom who appeared on Dr. Phil showRelated Content
ANCHORAGE—The 36-year-old Anchorage mother who gained international notoriety for alleged child abuse by Tapatio hot sauce goes on trial Wednesday morning. The six-member jury was selected Tuesday for the trial of Jessica Beagley, who’s been charged with a child abuse misdemeanor. Beagley appeared on the Dr. Phil show in November, asking for help disciplining the young boy she had adopted from Russia.
Beagley's husband, an Anchorage police officer, also appeared in the show. But it was the footage of the mother shoving her son into a cold shower and forcing hot sauce into his mouth that caused an international uproar and prompted Russian officials to re-evaluate American adoptions. According to Beagley's attorney, Bill Ingaldson, the Office of Children's Services investigated the case and "found there was no abuse."
The adopted boy and his twin brother both still live with the Beagleys and their biological children.
Beagley is expected to take the stand at some point during the trial, Ingaldson said.
Her attorney says her adopted son could also testify. Russian news organizations have sent reporters and photographers to Anchorage to cover the trial, which is expected to last four days.

This lady did all this just to get on TV. I think she can do even more for bigger publicity stunt. I doubt she will do same to her biological child. This lady is sick and she did a CRIME because she is just torturing the kid and threatening the kid. The kid was screaming in cold water and she keep on doing and she took help of her daughter to shoot the whole event. It looks like it was all preplanned in her mind that's why she keep her daughter ready to shoot the incident. In my view she did a crime and she must be punished along with her husband. But people also try to look what Chinese do to discipline their kids , its too less in comparison with that. In Chinese context its just a motherly love for her son. LOL

I still don't understand the outrage towards this woman. Our government takes kids away everyday and places them in homes that treat children like dollar signs rather than humans and we have the audacity to chastise this woman for a little disciplining of a child she wanted and willing adopted to be her own. As far as Russia is concerned, they "sold" the child to this family. Yes I said sold, why else would lawyers be asking for tens of thousands of dollars just to adopt a child when a plane ticket is only in the hundreds.

Who raised this woman? If the child needed to be disciplined then a time out was in order. Working in the field of law this is a case of abuse. Their are a lot of children who come from Russia with problems. Their not use to being loved or how to interact with other people. If the child provoked the problems then both the child and the parents should be getting help through mental health.

When I was this kids age in the 70's I was chased around the house, pulled from under beds and so on to get tobasco punishment for swearing. No kid leaves there mouth open for this, so you get it on your gums and lips, not half a bottle. I spent hours at the hose and bathroom sink. I love hot sauce now. What's the world coming to, it's not like she used an extention cord!

For those of you who make light of this situation, you should never have children. Did they adopt this child to have someone to take out their frustrations on? Our adoption laws are terrible and children suffer. Why isn't her husband also on trial? I can only imagine what went on with the child that was not shown. This woman is a mental case, throw her in jail quickly.

First I'd have to ask HOW DO YOU THINK PUTTING SOAP IN A KID'S OUTH IS OKAY??? Where are you people from? In NYC - kids don't get sauced or soaped. They get taught. I'm a teacher - that's why so many kids are troubled. This parent is scary ad parents who do such evil.. in such a calculated way are abusive. My two kids were never touched. They were taught. Wha moommy adn daddy did - they did. We raised them up right.

I hope this woman gets serious jail time and the father a police office should be fired. Watching her scream at this child while she puts hot sauce in his mouth and shoves him naked in a cold shower was unbearable. These children should not be adopted by these cruel Americans. It is better for them to stay in their own country even if they are in poverty than to live like this. I am heartsick and worried for this child and I wonder how many other adoptees are mistreated this way. This woman is say past SICK!

If anyone sees that video and doesn't think this is child abuse then they are nuts. I have seen the video on tv and had to turn it off because I was so angry at this poor excuse of a mother. She basically bullied and abused this poor child. If there is justice, she WILL go to prison and with any LUCK another prisoner will do the SAME to her. Hearing that poor child crying as she thru him in the COLD shower and his poor little voice talking to her as he know he would be abused once again was just haunting.

If she wants to get out of this, she should have her trial moved to Orlando. It doesn't matter there if you kill your child, duct tape her, and throw her in a swamp - they'll still find you not guilty.

She looks like a frigging idiot. There are ways to discipline a child without being abusive. And to the soldier who posted that he takes cold showers and eats hot sauce, so it should be ok for this child, I would like to say "Sir, you are an idiot". Maybe we should run children until they collapse like they do in the military, is that what your saying?? Or how about this, make them lay in the ocean in the cold surf for hours to punish them, just like the Navy Seals........I mean, if its ok for our soldiers, isnt it good enough for little children? ok.....child services found there was no abuse...the kids still live with her....and she is going to trial .....what is wrong with this picture????? I don't agree with what she did, but how can one be charged with child abuse and still have the child she allegedly abuse living with her during the trial? Apparently the DA is saying child services isnt doing their job.....since they stated no abuse was found. this is very confusing. Taxpayer's money wasted as usual. give her whole family counselling and monitor the home situation

Of all mistreated children in the US, why go the extra mile to adopt russian kids and abuse them. That is totally disgusting. These children being transported from their mother land is bad enough, but to end up abused by a US citizen is outrageous. The us already have a bad reputation as it is. Abusing foreign kids makes it even worse.

I am sure that there are ways to correct a child's behavior but what that mother did to her son is i think beound discipline it is torture and I know abuse. the thing is that the dad did not do anything about it and he is an anchorage police officer!

I have done what she says..so has almost every deployed soldier. We always had to shower in ice cold water, and hot sauce is the only thing that makes the food over there edible. So, what, that makes deployments torture?

It is strange that a misdemeanor case like this would go to trial. I think she should be punished for what she did. Anyone who thinks it wasn't a big deal should subject themselves to those types of treatment and then say it wasn't torture.

Silly case to take to trial. This is prosecutorial misconduct and waste of taxpayer money, given the other cases the MOA dismisses! No one else picks up this case but the MOA does...lol. Grandstanding by someone with political hopes? By someone who has previously avoided trying any other cases in her entire career in Alaska?
