Tobacco Prevention Control Program Reaches Out
Uses videos and PSAs to combat tobacco use

Alaska’s annual medical costs for tobacco use averages $314 million according to the state’s Tobacco Prevention Control program.
The TPC says lost productivity from tobacco use is around $177 million annually.
To get the word out about what the TPC does to discourage young people from lighting up or chewing, the group has produced videos and PSAs, which you can find on YouTube.
Many of the prevention programs are targeted at Alaska Native communities where smoking rates are higher than the population as a whole.
The TPC says the good news is they are seeing an increase in the number of communities adopting new policies for tobacco control.
