ANCHORAGE - Amanda Todd was 15 years old when she took her own life outside Vancouver on Wednesday.

The Canadian teen posted a heartbreaking account of her troubles on YouTube five weeks before she committed suicide.

The video detailed how she was bullied, including on Facebook.

"It's shocking the things that students sometimes will do to each other when they think they can get away with it online,” said Lisa Prince, principal at Central Middle School in Anchorage.

The Anchorage School District takes the issue of bullying very seriously.

“Something what was done on a Saturday night in someone's home, in their bedroom, could actually be a jurisdictional issue with the school district,” she said.

The school district encourages students and parents to document the harassment.

“We will have students that bring in, or families, harassing emails, harassing Facebook messages,” said Principal Prince.

School officials say they will discipline students who bully on any platform -- including text messages, emails, Facebook, as well as on school grounds.

“We have work detail, we have detentions, we have in-school suspension, there's out of school suspension and then ultimately there is expulsion from ASD,” said Patty Hynes, Assistant Principal at Central Middle School.

Ha ha good catch Woodz. Explosion from Anchorage School District. Sounds massive. "Student injured when principal used 100 pounds of Tannerite to explode disruptive student from Anchorage School District" KTVA must be saving money by not proof reading...lame.

Bwahahahaha! Anchorage mayor has yet again adjusted the budget and eliminated the entire fire & police departments. The savings will be used to reconstruct portions of schools severely damaged by the increased number of students being exploded this year. Parents are cautioned to ensure they speak to their children about appropriate behavior.

Yes, there were a couple of errors; proofing helps lots. Bullying isn't funny. I recommend book [Odd Girl Out] as a primer for understanding the depth of the problem. It's nice the author includes methods that work to combat the problem. Best bet: Have your kids use hitech sparingly, and learn to walk away from bullies, not caring for verbal abuse. Assault is assault and should be handled by the police.

Parents of that girl must feel lower then dirt right now. When their daughter put up a sign saying "I have nobdoy. I need some one", you pondered why this girl didn't seek her parents for that "someone".

Liam- have you ever been bullied? You don't generally 'walk away' from it. They stalk you, daily, continually grinding you down. The computer and texting aspect is easy to avoid, but sadly most kids (and adults for that matter) are addicted to it all.
