Teen Accused of Setting Three Fires18-year-old suspect apprehended shortly after lighting firesANCHORAGE - Louie and Shelley Lavigueure have had many adventures in their 1999 Ford Windstar, including camping with their four young children. But an arson attack in the early hours Monday morning has taken away their only means of transportation. “About 2:30 this morning the Anchorage police knocked on our door, knocked on our window of our bedroom, and woke us up and they asked us, 'Do you own a Ford Windstar?' We said yes, they said, 'Well, it's on fire,'” said Louie Lavigueure. Lavigueure said the reality of the loss of the van came quickly. “How are we going to get the kids to school and how is my wife going to get to work? How will we get to church?" The suspect in this case is 18 year-old Sosiua Vahaakolo. Police arrested him around 2:45 a.m. after he was found at hiding at Cash America, near the Lavigueure's house. "He was actually seen hiding from a police officer by another police officer and that's usually a dead giveaway that that person needs to talk to the police for some reason,” said Lieutenant Dave Parker. Vahaakolo is also charged with setting fire to two dumpsters. One at Barnes and Noble and the other just up the road from the van fire on Barrow Street. The Lavigueure's said things could've been much worse. "My wife just put a full tank of gas in it the other day so I mean it could've blown sky high,” said Lavigueure. "It could've led to the house and we are fortunate that everybody is safe.” |

He is right where he belongs, in jail. When someone acts as he did he is risking life, usually someone elses. The young people today act first then wanna think about there actions. And to his friends who attempt to read this, find an adult and they will read it to you.

He is considered an adult. He faces up to 5 years for the felony and 1 year for each misdemeanor, for a total of 8 years. Of course, he could get much less depending on time served, good behavior, etc.

Anyone that wants "Duece" free, needs to cough up about $3000 for a new ride for the VICTIMS here. He can sit in jail for years! Hopefully this now felon gets about 3 years for this.

I thought a "teen" was under the age of 18? Isn't 18 the legal age of an adult? It is interesting that when the person in question is doing something for the good of folks, their age gets "bumped" - in other words, if this man had done something heroic, the headlines would have read "Man saves ...". Since this ADULT chose to set fires and destroy property, he should be forced into the responsibility of paying for a new van and whatever other property he destroyed!

the parents of the TEEN should pay for the new van

My name is Louie and this was my van in the story that was set fire. Its a sad day. We are fortunate that no one was hurt. However, this was our only car. I am in a wheelchair and my wife drives me and my four children to school, work, etc. Now we are not sure how we can afford a new vehicle. A fund has been set up at Wells Fargo "Family Van Fund" for anyone who wants to help.

Thank you to KTVA for covering this. A fund has been set up to help us replace our van. Anyone can go to any Wells Fargo bank and donate to "Family Van Fund".
