ANCHORAGE - A Checker Cab driver, Paul Velasco, was arrested Tuesday for a sexual assault that occurred on May 1.

According to police, the victim, a 42-year-old woman, had been drinking at a friend's house and her friend called her a taxi to take her home. Velasco picked her up and drove her to a Boniface trailer court, where the assault allegedly occurred, then dropped her off at a Tesoro station. Police responded to the Tesoro station after the woman told the clerk she'd been sexually assaulted.

Velasco has been charged with first-degree sexual assault, with bail set at $100,000. He's scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon at Anchorage Jail Court.

Police note Special Victims Unit detectives acknowledge and appreciate the cooperation of the owners of Checker Cab.

I'll say it again, most of Anchorage's cab drivers act like they never got laid before. They stare at your woman right in front of you and seem to have never seen a woman who is beautiful with a full body. What a bunch of losers. How many women out there don't recall a night of drinking and have been sexually assaulted? Finally some standards have to be met to become a cab driver in Anchorage. Long past due.
