Suspect In Death of Man In Northward Building Arrested

FAIRBANKS - Fairbanks Police have arrested the suspect in the June death of a Fairbanks man.

Cornelius Everett Jr. is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Johnson Griffin.

Griffin, 55, was found dead in his Northward Building apartment June 27. Fairbanks Police did not immediately classify the death as a homicide. A medical examiner later concluded that Griffin had died of blunt force trauma to the chest.

Everett, 19, was identified as a suspect through witness interviews. He was indicted July 13 and a no-bail warrant was issued for his arrest.

Police received a phone call at 10:49 a.m. Saturday, and arrested Everett shortly after. He was booked at Fairbanks Correctional Center.
