Sushi Tuna Recalled for Possibly Elevated Histamine LevelsA California-based company has issued a recall for its frozen ground tuna, commonly used in sushi rolls, because it may contain elevated histamine levels.
A California-based company has issued a recall for its frozen ground tuna, commonly used in sushi rolls, because it may contain elevated histamine levels.
Frozen ground tuna from the Osamu Corporation says the potentially affected product has already been shipped to distributors and may have already been used in grocery-store sold sushi franchises; product was shipped to three distributors between Aug. 18 and Sept. 8 this year. According to the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, the product has distributed in Alaska. Eat foods with higher histamine levels may cause tingling or burning in the mouth, facial swelling, rash, hives and itchy skin, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. Three people outside of Alaska have reported illness due to elevated histamine levels linked to sushi from a single location, but no cases have been reported in Alaska. To make sure you aren’t eating possibly harmful sushi, ask a store manager where they purchased the frozen ground sushi tuna. |

I for one would never put "frozen ground" tuna in my sushi rolls. Fresh or nothing.
