The first of two candidates who want to be the city’s next school superintendent is in town for the next few days to meet with the community.

Jim Browder is a former superintendent of Lee County School District in Fort Myers, Florida.

He’ll spend three days touring the school district’s facilities, meeting students and staff members, and interviewing with the school nboard.

Browder says what initially attracted him to the Anchorage School District is that it was already headed in a good direction.

“They’ve done a good job over the past several years of educating children,” Browder said. “I believe that what I bring for a larger district is a sense of how to continue that. I wouldn’t want anyone to think I’m coming in saying this is not a good school district. I think this is a great school system.”

You are invited to spend some time with Browder at the school district’s Education Center’s board room Friday night from 7 to 9 p.m.

The other candidate, Steve Atwater, is the current superintendent of the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District. He’ll be in Anchorage next week for his meet-and-greet.

The school board hopes to have a new superintendent selected by the end of the month.

Mr Browder was always trying to raise taxes in Lee County because he decided that we needed more schools just because the student population exploded for 3 years. Well now we have a bunch of property that he decided to purchase and of course he paid at least 2x the current value, some of it more. Watch your wallets if he comes your way

The board should really take a extra hard look at Mr Browder, questions about his failure to implement a reasonable bus schedule that allowed students to spend a minimum time on buses rathner than the 3 to 6 hours daily. Another issues was student security or lack of there were numberous sexual attacks on school coampus
