ANCHORAGE - After weeks of rain and clouds, those living in Anchorage can finally enjoy the sounds of summer.
Mollyanne and her two children Brad and Kara were soaking up the rays they've been waiting for all season.
They weren't the only ones, though, Goose Lake was packed all day with beachgoers.
”Finally that’s my take, I want more weather like this,” said one beachgoer.
Many had mixed feelings about the heat.
“I’ve wanted hot weather, but I want it gone, it’s so hot,” said Debra Hersrud, who traveled from Seward to Anchorage for the day.
So far this year, Anchorage has seen 6 days of weather that's in the 70s.
Last year, we had 7 days; two years before that we had 9 days of sun.
The last time we had 80 degrees or warmer was back in July of 2009.
“We’re transitioning right now from La Nina to El Nino and normally, El Nino summers for us which happened in 2004-2005 are extremely warm and dry summer for us that's why we see so many 70 and 80 degree days those years. 00.42.02
He says because of the high pressure in the lower 48, cool and wet weather is being pushed to Alaska, creating a bummer of a summer for all of us.
But today, things turned around.
So, for now, Anchorage residents are enjoying what they can... while they can.
