Summer Gas Prices RiseGas prices rapidly spiked in the last weekANCHORAGE - Alaskans are once again feeling the pain at the pump, as gas prices spiked over the last few days. Others aren’t so surprised. “I’m not surprised; Alaska is in the pockets of oil companies,” said Susannah Numme, another Anchorage driver. There’s not much drivers can do to control the price. But they are coming up with creative ways to relieve some of that pain. “Now a lot of people are keeping them full, they don't know what the next day will bring,” said Brent Robb, a sales manager at Tesoro. They’re also finding other means of transportation, until the numbers hopefully go down. “I’m putting my bike rack on and going to pick up my bike where it's being tuned up,” said Numme. |

Strange that the national news is saying gas prices have gone down in the lower 48. We need a refinery that can service Alaska's needs.

a 20-cent increase in less than two weeks is not natural, it is gouging, especially with all the stories about a gas surplus in the states and reports of lower prices. WTF Alaska, WTF?

Let's build our own state refinery, hire private party to run it then use "our" oil from the pipeline and issue id cards to all licensed drivers so they can buy gas at cost 10%. Only qualify if you receive the permanent fund. If we have to build state gas stations in every city! If it was run half as well as the permanent fund it would be a win win! State owned privately run and restricted to qualified residents!!!

Why is this happening, the state needs to do something. You Govener is still giging these oil companies more tax breaks, why. Why did all you people vote this man back in, this is what happens when the oil companies has the man in there pockets. Companies talk about leaving, let them go take there leases from them and let the state take them over. There are people who need jobs anyway.

Oil prices are lower now than they were in Oct/Nov timeframe. Gas prices, higher. EVERY bit of gasoline is refined within the State. The companies tack on the cost of freight that it would cost if shipped from lower 48, even though it's piped in from Nikiski. It's not right.

At least in the valley, the price increases are almost always lead by tesoro. We could help stop it if we all stop buying from Tesoro when they raise their prices. If their sales stopped, I think they would put their price back where it was

I blessed that this increase really doesn't affect me but I don't see how those that live pay check to pay check are going to be able to make do. I agree, build a State run refinery, gas stations, and under sell the current gougers. Ten to One that they match the "State's" prices!

People...very simple, the driving season is soon to start in Alaska. Our legislature has looked at this numerous times and failed to prove anything -- I agree that they should not be able to tack on frieght charges -- they should only charge an appropriate cost for shipping under like circumstances as charged in the lower 48.
