The reality of opening up a business from scratch can sometimes be challenging, but one local business is proving that hard work and determination can bring your vision to life.

A Florida vacation inspired the husband and wife team of Chris and Shawn Rogers to build the space for indoor family fun. The Rogers’ children loved playing miniature golf during their time away from home and decided to bring the fun to Anchorage.

The owners said one of the reasons they decided to open up a miniature golf business in Anchorage was because there was a need for fun.

It took more than a year of planning and talking to other business owners before the Rogers got funding, which they said was the most challenging obstacle.

Shawn Rogers said they had to “re-tweak” their plan to make it logistically and financially sound, which included anticipating aspects like daily revenue, which the couple hadn’t considered when they first hatched the idea. Another surprise was that they did not know about the unexpected costs that would be involved with getting their business off the ground.

“The hard work was just getting the doors open—it took more time and more money than we anticipated,” she said.

And regardless of the bumpy road to get here, the Rogers family said they are happy with the outcome and look forward to being part of the community for many years to come.

“It’s different than anything else in town,” said Ashley Spielman, a Putters Wild customer. “It’s something new…it’s great. We love it.”

The Rogers family said they benefited from resources at the Anchorage Small Business Development Center in Anchorage for assistance with their business plan.
