State’s Largest Pumpkin Disqualified At Weigh-Off

Soft spot takes 1,723-pounder out of the running

 ANCHORAGE—The biggest pumpkin the state has ever seen was disqualified Wednesday afternoon at the official Alaska’s Midnight Sun Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off at the Alaska State Fair.

It was a disappointing day for Dale Marshall of Anchorage whose giant pumpkin topped the scales at a whopping 1,723 pounds. That would have been a new state record and put Marshall just 80 pounds shy of a new world record.

 

Fair officials disqualified Marshall’s entry after it was found to have a soft spot that ran deep inside. A spokeswoman says, while unfortunate, the judges are bound to honor the international rules set by the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth since the Fair is one of just a handful of sanctioned weigh sites in the country.

 

Wednesday’s title went to the second heaviest pumpkin, grown by JD Megchelsen of Nikiski. His entry topped the scales at 1,287 pounds, enough to shatter the old state record.

I think, maybe it implies somebody may have injected weight. but thats just my opinion.
