State Prepares Emergency Food StorageDistributed among undisclosed storage facilitiesANCHORAGE - How do you feed over 44,000 Alaskans during a major disaster? State officials started putting contingency plans in motion Tuesday. The state is beginning to move its critical food supplies to emergency storage. From the state's emergency operations center, state agencies and the private sector would then work together to distribute the supplies to affected areas. Contractors are stocking the caches with freeze-dried meals, infant formula, and cans of Alaska salmon. When it comes to emergency food, many people think of military MREs (Meals Ready to Eat), but that's not always the best choice. “…They're not good for an infant,” said John W. Madden, Alaska’s Director of Homeland Security & Emergency Management. “And they're not good for an elder. And they're not good if you have a medical condition. So amongst this cache of food will include food appropriate for elders, for those with nutritional needs, and for infants.” In addition to food, the state is also staging water purifiers that can make up to 1,800 gallons of potable water a day. The purifiers clean the water using paper, charcoal, and ultraviolet filters. The state is storing the emergency food supplies to undisclosed storage facilities in Fairbanks and Anchorage. |

We really need to have food storage in our house in case of calamities or disasters. Food storage help us survive whatever happened. It stored our food, clothing and even our pet. It makes us prepared on the unexpected event that may occured in this world. So it would highly recommended to be prepared on everything specially when it comes on calamities and disasters by storing the wet good and dry goods in time.

The state gov has known for a while now that things were gonna get rough. They were given lots of federal aid money to start preparing for whats to come...and they sat on their hands as most skeptics would. Now they have to play catch up and it might be too late. When what comes our way finally kicks off most of us will be screwed anyway. They've known about it since 97' and are just now starting to take it seriously. You honestly think the recent weather has just been a fluke these past 11 months? Don't bet on it. There's much going on you don't hear about, and much I wont repeat on a website. Expect calamity on a scale of biblical proportion when this thing starts rollin which is any day now. And all we can do is sit back and watch the show. Many will be lost, not many will be prepared. You guys better have a plan. The Gov does, and now that they have the data, they're finally movin their butts on it.

Quick query, someone messaged me that there are 250,000 people approx in Anchorage alone. Was the 'feed 44000' line a typo, should it have been 440000??

OK, give thanks to the Alaskan politicians, this is the big one. This is the official news announcement that changes the world. I have been researching solidly for 2 months online, I have about 80 serious articles from media and photos from youTube on my Facebook profile page, Gordon Hervey 1. At last, "the rubber has met the road", and it was only yesterday that I arranged a pile of cash and headed for the nearby mountain ranges to survey a refuge for a group of people who will be self sufficient with power generation and food supplies for a year. One friend was agonising to me just one hour ago about 'can I wait any longer before I give notice to quit my job?'. I'm about to phone his wife and say "look at the news!' Thank you ALASKA, THANK YOU.

Glad the state is doing this, but every household should be doing some of this as well - buy some extra cans of veggies or beans, extra bags of rice or pasta, whatever you can afford, whatever you can store (even if it's in a closet or under a bed!) you never know when you might need it. just make sure it is food you are use to eating and know how to prepares. This is even more important for those of us with food allergies or other medical and dietary concerns.
