Soldier Killed in Afghanistan ExplosionStaff Sergeant Thomas Kent Fogarty's next of kin have been notifiedANCHORAGE - A soldier stationed at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson died May 6 from injuries sustained after an attack in Ahmed-Kheyl, Afghanistan. Staff Sergeant Thomas Kent Fogarty, 30, was assigned to the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division when his Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected vehicle was hit with an improvised explosive device by enemy forces. Fogarty was medevaced to the city of Puli Alam, where he died from his wounds. Originally from Alameda, Ca., Fogarty had joined the Army in 2004 and had served in Fort Benning, Ga., Fort Stewart, Ga. and Fort Hood, Texas before arriving in Anchorage in January. He deployed to Aghanistan in April as a replacement in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Fogarty's next of kin have been notified. |
