Smoking Report Card ReleasedGets "A" for spending on preventionThe American Lung Association’s annual tobacco report card has the State of Alaska faring well in some categories, and completely failing in others. Here’s a look at how our state stacks up: We received an “A” for tobacco prevention and control spending. Lung Association advocates say that’s a top honor because most states in the nation fail in that category. Alaska got a “C” on cigarette tax, an “F” for smoke-free air, and an “F” for cessation coverage. Advocates say they want to make sure everyone has a smoke-free workplace. The Lung Association says right now there are 12 communities protected by smoke-free laws, including Anchorage, Fairbanks and Nome. Advocates say they’re working with legislators and grassroots organizations to try to pass a statewide smoke-free bill.
