Small Plane Crashes on Railroad Tracks in Birchwood

The Anchorage Fire Department has confirmed that four are dead in a plane crash that occurred Friday morning.

At 10:14 a.m., a small plane carrying an unconfirmed number of passengers crashed onto railroad tracks in Birchwood, Alaska, shortly after take off Friday morning. Officials at the Anchorage Fire Department confirmed that four people on the plane were killed but have not confirmed the number of people who were on board. 

According to eye witness reports, the plane took off around 10 a.m., ascended, but apparently stalled shortly thereafter, plummeting to the ground and appeared to have exploded on impact.

Officials from the National Transportation Safety Board are on site evaluating the scene.
