Should Police Resources Be Used to Enforce Panhandling and Illegal Camping?

A team of seven patrol officers, one sergeant and a lieutenant has put its priorities into clearing out the illegal camps in parks and trails around town, but is it the best use of resources?

i remember when tresspassing and vagrancy, were crimes. the police are used to prevent crime, and enforce laws. this is a part of the job.

this spring cleaning is way overdue and very appreciated. i know some of the campers and while i love the people, i hate to walk thru their mess on my way to a bus stop, or hear them say unprintable things while they're under the influence (esp. when kids are close enough to hear), or see them zonked-out outside in winter and wonder if they'll arrive alive at csp and/or hospital. this spring cleaning is a BIG answered prayer, and a pleasant surprise from those city hall folks we all including myself love to joke about between voting seasons.

The police should be used to enforce ALL the laws, not just writing speeding tickets and generating revenue

YES YES, the police are there to enforce all laws not just the ones that some might feel are more important than others. Anchorage is a beaitiful city with lots of tourists, OUR city does not need to have this stigma attached to it. Plus it makes it a safer place for our families.

Yes but the law should prohibit the panhandling not the one giving money. And the pnhandler should be the one cited

"The police should be used to enforce ALL the laws" Spot on, I Know I sure wouldn't get a free ACLU pass if I was trespassing/littering/arson on someone's property. About time. I still say there are way too many "do good" non profits out there and the money is being spent/spred around for ego sake. They (the feel good orgs) need to all get together and stop duplicating efforts to help. Pool the donations and finally do something for the homeless useful istead of for a ego trip or news clip.

These people are just too lazy to work. They like welfare leeches, live off tax payers.Anyone can get a job, "IF" you really try. Vagrancy is a choice.Begging for someone else's hard earned money is disgusting!Unfortunatly, if they were jailed for vagrancy, all the jails would be over flowing

Since I've started choosing to see the Earth as my home, I no longer have to fear homelessness. Four walls and roof? How limiting!
