ANCHORAGE—Police asked on Monday for public help in finding a man they said ended a Thursday night shoplifting spree in March by assaulting a female security guard.

Police said the man, described as an Asian man in his 20s, was seen stealing “multiple clothing items” from JCPenney in downtown Anchorage at about 6:45 p.m. on March 31.

As the security guard tried to take him into custody, the man swung a backpack at her, knocking her to the ground, police said. As she tried to get up, he pushed her down again, police said.

The man then ran into the 5th Avenue parking garage, and has eluded police for more than four months.

Police described the suspect as an Asian man in his 20s, about 5 feet and 8 inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds. They say he had short hair and was wearing black, horn-rimmed prescription glasses.

If you have any information on this man, police want you to call Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP or submit your tip at Anchorage Crime Stoppers
