ANCHORAGE - Anchorage Municipal Light and Power utility is warning customers of an email scam intended to steal their identity by offering $1,000 Visa gift cards. There is no such promotion.

ML&P customers targeted by this scam are asked to report the details to ML&P's Customer Service department at 263-5340, emailing AskML&P@muni.org or in person at 1120 East First Avenue.

This type of identity theft has been targeted at utility customers in several states, according to ML&P. Customers have been told there is special funding through the Federal Reserve Bank to assist with utility bills; there is not a funding program for that.
