ANCHORAGE - Two weeks after Anchorage Parks and Recreation announced the closure of the popular disc golf course Westchester Lagoon, opponents of the closure are taking out their frustration online.

Collaborative Minds started an online petition to save the Westchester disc golf course, and more than 1,600 people have signed it.

Players said they're upset with the decision to make it a winter-only course and limit use next summer to permitted events.

Member of Collaborative Minds Darrin Huycke said the group wants to organize bi-monthly cleanups in an effort to get the city to reopen the park this summer.

"We'll bring a better environment for the park, obviously and we hope that kind of pays it forward to where doing something a little bit different now on will make a difference in why they shut down the course,” said Huycke.

The group said it has a public comment meeting with the city and Parks and Recreation Wednesday at the Russian Jack Chalet at 6 P.M.

They are inviting people interested in reopening Westchester to come and voice their opinions.
