Unlike a typical marathon where runners get a change in scenery, two Anchorage runners ran the entire 26.2 miles on an 84-meter track. Grand total? 502 laps.

It took runners Steve Peterson and Holly Barclay about 4.5 hours to finish the marathon Sunday afternoon. The dizzying race was an effort to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club of Alaska.

Before the duo's marathon, the track had been used exclusively for kids’ races and other short runs. Management at Skinny Raven, operators of the Skinny Mini track, say the mega record will be tough to beat.

"It's gonna be hard to top over 500 laps…They're raising money for Boys and Girls Club today, so we've got some running shoes on the table and people are dropping by putting money in the shoes…It's really kind of grass rootsy," said Skinny Raven manager Jerry Ross.

Another interested factoid: The runners came up with the marathon entirely on their own.

Still no word yet on just how much money the run raised for the non-profit.
