Rodeos are a common sight in the Mat-Su Valley and across the Kenai Peninsula, but Anchorage hasn’t seen the ropers and riders for years.
After a nearly decade-long hiatus from Anchorage due to waning interest, rodeo organizers say the perception of cowboys and roping has changed and it’s the perfect time to bring the tradition back.
Thousands of rodeo fans packed the bleachers in South Anchorage as more than 90 contestants competed in bull riding, barrel racing and roping.
If you missed out on the rodeo this weekend, there will be another one held in August as well as next summer.
