"Rent" Tells the Story of Hope, Loss and Bonding.Rock opera has four shows leftANCHORAGE – The rock opera Rent only has four shows left. The Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning play has a cast of 28 local actors telling a story of hope, loss, bonding and are backed by a live five-piece band. The central love story concerns an aspiring rock singer and an exotic dancer who is dying of AIDS. “There are still times during the show when lines will be said or a certain part will be sung and that still kind of chokes me up a little bit,” said producer and drummer Steven Alvarez. According to Regina Macdonald, who plays Mimi, it’s been great and believes residents will be curious to see what it is all about. “Its one of those shows that Anchorage doesn’t really get a chance to see.” Rent will also play Friday and Saturday at the Performing Arts Center. |
