"Unite Against the War on Women" Rally Draws CrowdCheers roared as speakers passionately spoke about frustrationsANCHORAGE – Local residents rallied at Town Square to “Unite Against the War on Women.” Cheers roared as speakers passionately spoke about frustrations with the Republican Party, the birth control debate, job equality, violence against women and much more. One supporter estimated the number of attendees at more than 200. The march was an old fashioned approach to a very hot topic. "Someone on the march said it was like the old days and it is like the old days," said Libby Roderick, a singer. "It would be 30 years ago that I sang in public for the first time." Her first appearence was just one block over from Town Square. "Stop the Republican war on women and families," was a picketing sign that stood prominently above the heads of a growing crowd. The event, which started with a march from the Denali Park Strip and ended at Town Square, featured speakers who got the crowd cheering and yelling about Alaska’s frightening rate of crimes against women. According to a Forbes national report, Anchorage is the third most dangerous city for women. A man in a light blue t-shirt held a sign that said "MAN UP! SUPPORT WOMENS RIGHTS." "Justice for women" was written in bright blue and blood red print. These men were not alone; young boys held signs for their mothers and some cheered with the crowd, as the men present recieved praise from speakers. But Alaskans weren’t the only ones taking part. Every state in the nation had marches April 28, held by the Unite Against the War on Women organization. The organization's main focus is to defend the rights of women and pursue equality, according to UniteWomen.org. According to Roderick, Saturday's march was in the tradition of the peace march. "There were people before us and we won't be the last." |

giving up the 3 mid east Abraham religions would be a great start in empowering women.

The Republicans want women to have nice jobs. The Democrats just want re-distributed wealth through taxes. Being independent from the government's plantation mentality would be my goal if I was a women.

Women's rights have always been secondary to men, James Brown said it best, "This is a man's world." Though we women have the right to vote, to work, to give birth, it is the man who makes more money at the same job, it is the man 9 out of 10 times offered a management position over a more qualified woman, it is the man who stands at the forefront of Pro-Life issues and yet it is the women who suffer the labor to give birth to the baby boy who grows up to the man defining women's rights. It appears to me times are going backwards, and I pray daily for a change that opens the hearts and love for all to see, without woman a man is merely a little boy with big feet.

statistics show women are worse off for jobs and equal pay since obama took office. Why are republicans being blamed for this? Obama controlled both house and senate during his first two years in office, spent more money than bush did in 8 years and more than any other president. Obama has divided this country (blacks and whites, working women and non working women, christians and muslims, etc, so when are people going to see him for what he really is?
