Redistricting Board Prepares for Fairbanks TrialTwo residents suing against planIn Fairbanks, the Alaska Redistricting Board is preparing for a two-week trial on the state's plan to redraw legislative district lines. Attorneys representing the Redistricting Board and two residents of the Fairbanks North Star Borough who challenged parts of the state's new map of the legislative districts spent Wednesday afternoon clearing up some issues before trial. Superior Court Judge Michael McConahy will decide whether or not several districts, including the new House District 38, which groups Ester and Goldstream Valley all the way to Alaska's western coast, violates requirements for 'compact' district lines. The trial is scheduled to begin on Monday. |
