ANCHORAGE - Got milk? There are some people on the Kenai Peninsula who got that and a whole lot more.

Officials from the state Department of Health and Social Services say four people have contracted an infection called campylobacter from drinking raw milk. The department says a similar outbreak, which caused 18 people to become ill, was traced to a Mat-Su Valley farm in 2011.

Selling raw milk in Alaska is illegal, but people can still get it through what's called milk sharing: That’s when you own part of a living cow and thus can use – or in this case drink – its milk. If you have consumed any raw milk this year and are experiencing symptoms such as diarrhea, severe stomach pains and a fever, call the Alaska Health Section of Epidemiology at 800-478-0084.

Making the Sale of raw milk for human consumption illegal is petty and only hurts small farms, News articles like this glorify a law that is unnecessary to begin with, so much so 4 people get a stomachache and it makes the news because it has to, its the only thing they can find to justify the raw milk prohibition.

" If you have consumed any raw milk this year and are experiencing symptoms ......" According to medical sites online symptoms occur within 2-4 days. So blaming a sickness on milk consumed anytime within the year is a fatastical stretch of imagination! Within the last week, or more likely last several days. Less than 5 minutes to find the above info online, in addition to what T.Heider mentioned. Research is a good thing people.

It is my understanding that campy can be picked up from many sources, including products from grocery stores.
