ANCHORAGE - The debate in Anchorage over whether to add "sexual orientation and transgender" to the city’s anti-discrimination law is heating up.

There are now commercials produced by supporters from both "Vote Yes" and "Vote No" flooding the media.

One Anchorage, the group supporting Proposition 5, said its commercial is meant to represent the broad support the ordinance has in the community.

"The wealth of support that is behind this really is spoken in that commercial, that you see families, individuals, gay, straights, old,” said Trevor Storrs, spokesperson and chair for "Yes on 5."

Storrs said his group has more than 70 businesses and 50 clergy backing the equal rights initiative.

Commercials being run from the Vote No campaign are being met with controversy.

“The opposition is using mistruth in much of what they are putting out,” said Storrs.

Storrs said the commercials are misleading when it shows the characters getting locked up in jail.

"No one has ever gone to jail," said Storrs.

The Equal Rights Commission confirms no case has reached the stage of someone being sentenced.

But as the law currently stands, under Title 5 of the Municipal Code, a person who willfully resists or interferes with the Equal Rights Commission can be convicted by a court and can be punished by a fine of up to $500 and/or up to 30 days in jail.

The "Vote No" campaign says this is the message they are trying to send.

"We aren't using hyperbole; we are just saying that this is what this law can do,” said Jim Minnery, president of Alaska Family Council.

“People haven't been brought to jail or fined because we don't have a sexual orientation law on the books."

"Vote No" supporters said if the law passes they expect to see more discrimination cases brought before court.

That is ridiculous Kathleen, . . .How about those "witnesses" speak out. It is time for those bible thumping truth sayers to stop with the ridiculous bias and judgements. It is nowhere in the bible it is only in man's ill will that gives the prejudice to another. It is those believers . . . and it is the word "believe" that continues to plague societies today. Your types are the same , and let me demonstrate. You vote, you preach, and you attend church . . . When you go with ethics and verses from the bible you take it to make your reasoning somehow . . . authentic. It is not it is man made. . . hell, it went through how many hands to be translated and it of course does not reach the subject of slavery it promotes it. You are promoting a epithetical translation or a belief that judgement should be passed to people even though your Jesus says to love and accept. Kathleen Don't bring your beliefs to a truth fight.

What a surprise that same day fuss about controversial TV ad word comes out that pesudo org listing (Pastor) Glenn Clary as chairman, ABT donates $80,000. Last minute sale of property from Allen-gate, or filtering funds from outside sources? That should would have helped a lot of hungry and homeless people. With Prevo Corp nvolved at this level, may just push folks to YES side no matter what they believe. And with this new info proves (Pastor) Clary's home not primarily a parsonage, so should immediately nullify any property tax exemption.

Move the Mountain Ministries… Kathleen Tonn I’ve considered Prop 5 from many different angles. Of course, I hold a Biblical view, and it is a Biblical view that compels me to vote NO on Prop 5. Yet, I've had friends who were gay, friends in the distant past and one more recently. I've also had clients who were gay. Each of these individuals knew of my whole-hearted faith in Jesus. The gay friends who believed in Jesus literally prayed with me and others to renounce homosexuality. The tears they shed in utter relief still linger on my hands. They were so grateful to be rid of such confusion! One man told me he felt like he was being pushed into sexual yearnings for men. He demonstrated this unseen force by pushing me on my shoulder, and I nearly fell off my chair. As my friend pushed me, he told me it was evil that did that to him. By the way, that man loves Jesus, and he stood his ground and has remained faithful to his belief in Jesus. More recently, a lesbian friend conf
