If you plan on visiting an Anchorage post office in the next few days there is one thing you can count on, you won’t be alone. From now till Christmas postal workers are processing more parcels than they’ll see for most of the year. And lines of people waiting to mail them are just as long.

At the Airport Post Office that means about 100, 000 parcels a day going out to every part of the state and the Lower 48.

If you are one of those people still planning on sending boxes in the mail and would like them to arrive on time for Christmas there are three big dates to keep in mind.

Tuesday, December 20 is the last day you can send mail First Class and be guaranteed delivery by Christmas. Wednesday December 21 is the last day that Priority mail will get them there on time. Folks who wait to mail on Thursday will need to pay Express mail fees to guarantee delivery.

Finally, the Airport Post Office has the longest hours for those needing to send mail.

The facility is open 7 days a week from 6 a.m. till midnight. The post office is open on Christmas Eve but will close early at 8 p.m.
