Police Shoot and Kill ManSuspect approached officer brandishing stickRelated Content
ANCHORAGE - On Saturday evening, about 9:30, police were called to a disturbance at an apartment complex on North Bunn Street. Various reports were of screaming, a man yelling at cars while they drove by and attacking a neighbor’s dog. On arrival, police found the subject in the yard of the complex, “highly agitated” according to a press release and brandishing a stick. Police say he approached an officer aggressively, refusing to put the stick down, and when he came closer the officer shot him. The suspect, 26-year-old Shane Tasi, was declared dead at a local hospital afterward. The case is still under investigation, and per policy, the officer who shot him is on administrative leave, and his name will not be released for 72 hours. |

What about the mass training these cops get. They are so qualified to do things, multi-tasking robo cops can even get away with talking on the cell phone and drive, but you can't because you are not trained. A drunk guy waving a stick. Shoot the idiot in the leg that would've stopt him!!! The state of Alaska is going down the tubes. The turn around of people and the new ones in public offices appoint each others friends and buddies in powerful positions to corrupt it's decent functionality. They investigate each and deem bad things as good?

First APD is molesting girls,now APD is shooting cause of a stick.All Cops are trained to restraint and use self defense.So now their using guns?cause of a dayum stick?REALLY?? if he didnt hit the cop with the stick,why did the cop shoot?is it cause he's samoan? nowadays everyone is protecting themselves from the ones who are supposed to protect us.This goes all the way back to Rodney King getting beat from cops.Us Samoan people is a big population in this city.I would understand if he was shooting at the cop.But he had a stick.what happened to the pepper spray, or the batons,or the trainings that you guys get?Yes alot of Samoan gangs here act a fool by shooting and all but it doesnt mean ALL OF US are like that.You live by the gun you die by the gun.Not carry a stick and die by the gun.STUPID APD!A cop pulled me over saying i didnt have my turning signal on.i knew i did so i fought it and low and behold,the camera shows my signal on. Ed you are an idiot, how there you say that, so your saying its good for any officer to kill after a long day of work. you are a bully. I am a police officer and there is noway that a man holding a stick is a threat. I love my job and respect peoples lives, that's why I am what I am, to serve and protect. Surely this officer had issues and thought that he was above the law. From a fellow officer to another you abuse your power or power hungry! Thanks for making all police look bad. I hope you get what you deserve Idiot!

We will get shot for shoveling our driveways. Cops will do drive bys and say we were a threat. APD needs to be cleaned up, still. Illegals, rapist, pedofiles,drug dealers, and murders with a badge all ok in the APD playbook.

It is so sad how the so-called authorities abuse their positions. Another cop breaking the law. Shot a guy waving a stick around. I thought all cops are trained. Did the city give this guy a legal right to commit murder? Did they do a background check on this cop? Probably find some mental issues, course they won't release to the public if there was any issues. This isn't the first time "Our Cops" murder, these trigger happy clowns do get off and call it justified. (Internal Investigation) They kill women & children to!! Who knows what will be next. Could it be a guy waving antlers and a women throwing bushels of fire-weed at a cop. He'll feel threatened for his life and pump 10 shots into her. Some of these cops come up from down south have either been suspended and or have been fired or quietly released from their positions due to inappropriate behavior, only to come to Alaska and release their true inner selves upon the public.

The media has done a poor job of reporting...describe the "stick" properly for evaluation of what the true threat to the officer...also, don't officers still carry "night sticks" and trained in their use to restrain a suspect? What is the minimum "non-letal" issue of equipment that each officer is issued? If not trained and equiped with a taser.

Go show'em How? No, we pay taxes for them to protect us not act like thugs and gigolos. We work our asses off in other deadly professions to pay taxes, to pay these guys really good money to do their job. Whats next? if you look at a cop the wrong way or talk to him the wrong way "you get blasted". I am a honest hard working citizen and not a criminal, I just don't want to start feeling threatened at the sight of every officer, when you should feel safe.

Use of deadly force is when no other options are available. were there other options? Was the officer trained properly? was the subject a serious threat of death? these are the questions that need to be answered? Will the reporters tell us if there is a case against the city? or will they loose track of the story to keep face?.. the Sargent stated on the television that not all officers carry tazers so do they carry other NON-DEADLY devices?. Pepper stray? I understand they have at least a 15 foot reach?. was the officer within his rights to use deadly force?..

you dont like how it was handled? put your neck out there! the police are there to protect us, i hear all the complaints, but when you need help stand up be a man or women stick to your hatred for the police out there in all kinds of bad weather 12 to 18 hr shifts being spit on yelled at threatened, their families threatened. help the police out and show them how to do it properly. you all make me sick, something happens to one of your family members then you trash the police for not doing enough. stop whining and apply to the police dept. then you can straighten them out with all your wisdom.

I'm glad this guy is dead. One less lunatic off the streets. A tazer would of been worser to use cause he'd go to jail or mental hospital and make us pay for all the bills. Death was the best option in this situation.

Congrats. Nice shot. Thanks for helping to clear out the shallow end of the gene pool. Perp got what he deserved. Just put the stick down and do what the officer told you. How hard is that to understand? We all know that sometimes tazers don't always work. So the officer would be left with a guy attacking him with a stick/club/ball bat and all the officer would have was his hands. Law enforcement does have and needs some controlling and regulating standards and bodies. But if the officer realistically thought his life was in grave danger or bodily injury - double tap center mass.
