ANCHORAGE - Police say it all started at around 11 a.m. Friday morning when the suspect, a white man described to be in his 40s, about 6 feet tall with a shaven head, was seen snooping around in the backyard of the victim's grandmother's house near 82nd and Lake Otis.

Police say the 19-year-old man then confronted the suspect. That's when the older man forced the younger man into his own truck and forced him, at gunpoint, to drive south on the Seward Highway.

Police say the suspect needed to stop at the Turnagain Pass area to relieve himself.

He got out of the truck and took the truck keys with him. But the victim happened to have a spare key in the truck and managed to drive off and call for help.

APD and troopers closed off the area between miles 69 and 73 of the highway for about three hours as they searched for the suspect.

The highway was reopened at about 3:30 p.m.

"He was last seen by the victim going into the woods to relieve himself and the victim took off and from that point we don't know if he's still in the woods or was able to catch a ride. We believe that he probably is in that area still," said Lieutenant Dave Parker of APD.

Police say the victim and suspect did not know each other.

The suspect is being described as a white man with a shaven head, about 6 feet tall and 210 pounds.

Troopers are urging people to not pick up hitchhikers in the Turnagain Arm area.

Suspicious said on Saturday, Jul 21 at 4:16 PM This story doesn't smell right. Was there really a kidnapping, or is this a fabrication? Why on earth would a kidnap victim text relatives / friends instead of dialing 911. This is awfully suspicious.......................................lol have you ever watched the movie "The Usual Suspects"??, the so called kidnapper here should be named "Keyser Söze" because his tattoo is the same color of this kids truck, plus the kidnapper must be pretty stupid to think by just taking the truck keys it was going to keep the kid there, and if you haven't notice in the news story nothing was stolen so why would some guy kidnap him, unless some one was trying to hide something they did, like the kid ...

From what I understood from others was that he texted his mother while the guy was still in the truck, then called 911 after he had ditched the guy.
