ANCHORAGE - The Anchorage Police Department (APD) is on a hunt for a murder suspect after investigators say the gunman killed a young man in a West Anchorage home and then fled.

The shooting took place just blocks from Dimond High School, at a triplex on Dewberry Street.

APD says the call came in just after 11 a.m. Wednesday morning. By the time police arrived the victim was dead and the suspect had fled in a vehicle.

Wednesday night police released a description of the man they are looking for. He is white, between 20 and 30 years old, 5’8”, with a slim build and was last seen wearing a green, plaid shirt. According to officials he sped away in a red Pontiac Sedan.

By late Wednesday afternoon police were still collecting evidence at the scene and interviewing witnesses. They say there were at least three people in the residence when the shooting occurred.

“We have witnesses that we are interviewing to try to and piece everything together,” said Marlene Lammers of APD, “to try and figure what exactly went on, and if any of the parties knew each other and how they knew each other. It's still pretty early in the investigation.”

Even though the suspect is still on the loose police say there's no reason for the public to feel afraid.

I am good friends with two uncles of this victim. I can't imagine what this family is going through right now. I pray that this piece of garbage is found and convicted quickly.
