Detectives said they've arrested 34-year-old Yoder Austin Blalock on charges of second-degree murder after witnesses said he fatally stabbed 38-year-old Nathan Tanape.
Anchorage police are investigating the third homicide of the weekend after receiving reports of a stabbing on the 600 block of E. 3rd Avenue early this morning.
Just before 6 a.m Sunday, patrol officers said they responded to the downtown residence and found a man with multiple wounds.
He was driven to a local hospital where he died a short time later, and Anchorage Police Department homicide detectives are interviewing witnesses.
UPDATE: Detectives said they've arrested 34-year-old Yoder Austin Blalock on charges of second-degree murder after witnesses said he fatally stabbed 38-year-old Nathan Tanape.
According to charging documents, Tanape had been drinking with friends behind his apartment when Yoder arrived in a small, red truck to pick up a woman from the same building.
When Tanape told Yoder to leave, he returned to his truck, only to come back to the apartment building with a can of pepper spray and a long, machete-like knife.
Witnesses told police he then slashed Tanape's scalp, and when paramedics arrived at the scene, they found him with multiple stab wounds and lacerations to his head.
While Yoder had fled the area, he called 911 about an hour later to tell dispatchers he had been involved in a fight and wanted to talk to police.
Officers later arrested him near the corner of Lake Otis Parkway and 18th Avenue, and he remains in custody pending a court date.
