ANCHORAGE - You've probably seen him on TV more often than anyone in the Anchorage Police Department, and for many of us here at KTVA, Lieutenant Dave Parker is considered a part of our family.

After nearly two decades with the Anchorage Police Department, Parker is hanging up his badge and is headed into retirement.

Thursday colleagues gathered to honor him for his years of service to the Anchorage community.

Parker has been working in media relations for the past eight years, and said he's going to miss the job.
"It's been great working here. I love the people -- a terrific bunch of officers and non-commission ed personnel -- a great bunch of folks to work with, but we are turning a new chapter in our lives, and now it's time to do something else," he said.

Parker mentioned only one post-retirement plan, which, after being on call 24-7 for years, is to take some real days off.
