ANCHORAGE - Anchorage Police have made an arrest in an arson case that happened over the weekend.

Mathew Marinas, 19, has been charged with setting a truck owned by the ARC of Anchorage on fire early Sunday morning.

Police said Marinas was in the process of lighting another fire in the woods directly behind the ARC’s East Anchorage building when he was picked up this morning.

Officials said the truck, which is used to pick up donations, was completely destroyed, and that replacing it will put a financial strain on the organization that helps Alaskans with developmental disabilities.

“We'd love to put all that money towards providing services,” said the ARC’s Chris Hall. “If we have to replace a piece of equipment as substantial as this it’s going to hurt somewhere, so we are going to have to work harder as an organization to make those funds up.”

Hall estimated it would cost as much as $30,000 to obtain another used vehicle, and said he did not expect that insurance would cover all the cost.
